I regret cutting off the Phenolic tip on my break cue when I tried something else. I now went to purchase a new Phenolic tip a find that most all places offer a "non-brand-specific" Phenolic tip. You can buy all the different brand names of leather tips, size, hardness, color, layered, non-layered, etc.
A phenolic tip for breaking speed almost doesn't warrant chalk - you have to be really accurate if you want to amp it up. I much prefer the Samsara JB tip - but really recommend any other very hard LEATHER tip over phenolic, which, by the way, became illegal as a break cue tip in BCA.
Phenolic tips are so 5 years ago, damage cueballs, feel like you are hitting with a rock. Swap the thing out for a Samsara or White Diamond, no issues with chalk. and neither were close to matching a hard pressed leather tip or one of the more pliable break/jump tips like Samsara or the White Diamond. I think the White Diamond jumps better
I have a jump/break cue that has a phenolic tip. Jumping has been "spotty". Funny thing is, I have a shorty cue that I use for one area around my table that has limited access. That shorty cue was a normal leather tip seems easier to jump for me than the phenolic tip? It might be I have not practiced as much with the jump cue.
